Growing old is inevitable. Acting old is a choice.

*sigh* Well, one nice thing about being old is we can remember when video games weren't completely flunking the fundamentals.

To empathize with Evertide, "You don't stop playing because you grow old, you grow old because you stop playing." And seeing as I keep finding new toys, albeit more expensive ones, I'm going to turn into Peter Pan any day now... but I do know what you are talking about how it's hard to feel young. Society in America is especially bad about it and I could give a nice long rant about that. The gist of it is as a toddler the "adults" treat them like what they think a toddler should be, an unintelligent mass that has to be taken care of. "Baby talk" has got to be the worst idea for humankind ever. Just because a newborn cannot respond in such a way the adult can understand does not mean they are no learning; contrary, this is prime learning time for them. It's similar to how many Americans treat people who speak only a little English; they speak louder in the hopes of understanding the other person which makes zero sense. The non-English speaking person understands them well enough but because they cannot respond in a way the English speaking person understands, there is something wrong. OK, that's another story in an of itself.

THEN you have elementary school which is supposed to be some wonder drug to make all kids smart at the same rate and quantity. Surely since everyone is being fed the same stuff they should all grow up the same. That would make sense if every single kid was alike but this is hardly the case. Children grow at different paces and each has their own set of talents.

Which leads me to, what happened to being young? Have you seen how "grow up" kids are these days without having a single bit of maturity? They dress and look like grown ups but do not act or speak like one. They are expected to know everything in school without being taught it. Most classroom test are mere mental regurgitation with no digestion of the information. How are they supposed to strengthen their mind if they are conditioned to have a bulimic brain?

In high school you have lived less than 20 percent of the average lifespan yet you are supposed to decide what you want to do with the other 80 percent. And if by the end of college you have not decided then you are deemed worthless by the system and spit out to forever do simple manual labor. And through all this we call ourselves civilized?

Whoops, that was more than just a gist... but I think you get the general picture I am painting. Really, your mid 20's are really tough in this society of fast paced technology. Up till now you have always had someone telling you to do this or do that without ever training you to be independent. Then there is some magical barrier of age you cross and all of a sudden you should be capable of making your own decisions and way in life. They give you tools without every really telling you how to use them, much less what you should use them for.

Anyhow, seeing as I'll be turning 31 next Tuesday, I feel for you. :) Oh, and seriously, Happy Birthday! There will be a day you look back and wish you had just one more... :)

:iconbeck-carter:
Thankies! I think I get the gist of what you're saying... So longas people have an imagination., they'll always be young at heart, right?

Thankies again! :aww::hug:

Thankies~! I get what ya mean! No one's truly ready to grow up, although we're expected to just like that. And not all of us "grow up" at the same time, as you said. I for one have a LOONG ways to go in some areas of "adulthood".

Anyhoots, sorry for the late reply and a happy Belated htierty-first birthday, and good luckon your journey on becoming Peter Pan! ;)
